FiT Coach Alan Davey focuses on GW17

Gameweek 17 already, I am already starting to worry about what I will do this summer. Everything gets a little hectic from now on. Chances of postponed games and lots of player rotation during the busy Christmas schedule.

First up we have Newcastle hosting Manchester City at 12.45 this Saturday. It would be fair to say that both teams aren’t really enjoying the season so far. I don’t foresee any cautious play in this one and I think there will be quite a few goals in it. Well, there will be if Maniluvbalocini actually starts Tevez instead of Ijustwannabeonthetelli. You shouldn’t really be looking at transferring anyone in for the first game of the week but if for some reason you are still stuck with a Southampton or Chelsea player, Ben Arfa might be worth a look at.

Due to Chelsea playing at the World Whatever Cup, we have a quieter Saturday. Only 5 games at 3pm and no late kick off, sigh. I will be strongly advising dumping a City or Newcastle player for the return of Suarez. (Be aware that Newcastle host QPR in GW 18 and City host Reading) I’m pretty confident that Suarez will be one of the most popular captain choices for this week. Saying that, Aston Villa have only conceded 1 in their last 4 EPL games. Since City put 5 past them they seem to have sorted themselves out. Liverpool have become pretty solid themselves recently and I think they will edge this one. Enrique should be FiT, we will know more about that on Friday.

League leaders Manchester Utd host Sunderland. Even though both teams had very good victories in their last games, I can’t see anything but a Utd win. A lot of us will still have Johnson, Sessegnon and Fletcher in our teams after the successful double, so as a Manchester Utd fan I will be happy with something like 9-4 with a hat-trick for Rooney and RvP. If you’re not captaining Suarez then Rooney or RvP must surely be in your thoughts instead.

Norwich vs Wigan might turn out to be a decent watch. Snodgrass is coming good, I’m seeing him in quite a few teams now. Bassong may become the highest scoring defender so far this season if he does something on Saturday. With 3 goals in his last 4 games and Norwich keeping the odd clean sheet, he is becoming very popular. There is always Kone or Holt to take a punt on.

QPR vs Fulham. Can QPR finally record a win? Fulham did look good against Newcastle and Berbatov did everything but score. They aren’t consistent though and my faith in Taarabt has to pay off sometime I guess. I actually think QPR can do this. 2-1 with Berbs and Taarabt on the scoresheet.

Stoke vs Everton. I am getting so annoyed with Stoke. I keep putting off transferring more defenders in because I keep thinking their clean sheets will dry up. Like an idiot I even put Villa vs Stoke in my GoalsGalore last week, to make it worse I picked 6 out 7 right as well. Anyway it’s over, it’s official. Stoke play Everton, Tottenham, Liverpool, Southampton, Man City, Chelsea and Swansea in their next 7. They simply cannot keep doing what they have been doing. Or can they? Anyway, we will see a lot of managers put the armband on Fellaini maybe a few will look at bringing in Jelavic for this game. One player who has been catching my eye is Charlie Adam. He is back from suspension and he is definitely helping Stoke out attacking wise.

We have Tottenham, Swansea, West Brom and West Ham playing on Sunday. I will be looking at bringing in a few Tottenham players. They have a decent Christmas run coming up and hopefully Defoe is now un-droppable. Bale may also return for the game and Lennon or Dembele are cheap alternatives. Michu should be in every fantasy iTeam. I remember writing the blog for GW 1 and mentioning that he was the top scoring midfielder in La Liga last season. I still can’t understand how he only cost 2 million quid. Annoyingly he still carries the burden of being one yellow away from a suspension but if you work out your transfers properly this shouldn’t cause you a problem. Long and Morrison will be popular for West Brom. They will want to get back to winning ways asap. Nolan is due and Matt Jarvis is always worth an assist for the Hammers. Carlton Cole looks quite dangerous to. Dengate made me say that…

Finally we have Reading vs Arsenal on Monday night. I will probably do what I know I shouldn’t and stick Cazorla and Giroud in a lot of my teams. Arsenal love to disappoint fantasy football managers. Reading however are shocking. Their double gameweek failure couldn’t have been much worse. Not one goal in the 2 games and 4 goals conceded. Hopefully Walcott will be back and Arsenal won’t disappoint you all this week. I am happy to cheer my fantasy iTeam Arsenal players on as I just don’t see them being a title contending team anymore, not this season anyway.

Take a little time out and check out the Christmas fixtures. Due to potential snow meaning some games being called off (remember Blackpool) hold off on making any early transfers. You should (where possible) be checking out the team sheets first anyway. Have a great Christmas and good luck to you all.

(Remember to check out @fantasyiteam on Twitter. Even if you don’t use it much it is worth following us for the latest team/injury news and we get all the team line-ups posted 1 hour before kick-off. )

Donut out…
