The 13/14 Premier League winner will be decided this Sunday. Manchester City only need to draw against West Ham to secure the title. Liverpool could still swoop in and land it for themselves – a win vs Newcastle, and a loss for Manchester City, would see them crowned champions instead. All 10 EPL games kick off at 3pm.
At the other end of the league everything is pretty much done and dusted. For Norwich to perform the greatest ever escape, they would need to win about 17-0 and West Brom would need to lose. It’s not going to happen! So, we will say goodbye to Cardiff, Fulham and Norwich. All 3 clubs changed their manager during the season, Fulham more than once. I can’t help but think that if Cardiff had stuck with Malky Mackay they would have stayed up.
One things that’s still to be decided, is who deserves to be named manager of the year? Pellegrini has waltzed into the Premiership and looks to have won the league at the first time of asking. He’s also won the Capital One Cup, and took Man City to the last 16 of the Champions League. He’s avoided any sort of controversy and gone about his business in a calm and efficient manner. Some would say he might be a little boring, but there’s no doubting his ability.
Then we have our escape artists, Tony Pulis and Gus Poyet. The former has guaranteed Crystal Palace an 11th place finish. This after the club picked up just 3 points in their opening ten games under Ian Holloway. The latter took his Sunderland side to a Capital One Cup final, and in the space of just 2 weeks, secured survival with incredible wins against Cardiff, Chelsea, Man Utd, West Brom, and a crucial draw at the Etihad.
Lastly, we have Brendan Rodgers. Even the most positive of Liverpool fans would never have expected to see their team just 2 points off the pace with one game to go. Pre-season was disrupted with want-away Suarez saying all the wrong things, and some fans thought it could have been the right time to cash in. Rodgers, supported by the board, dug in, and then watched the player of the year perform out of his skin, time and time again. Whatever happens on the final day, they will be playing Champions League football next season, and every single Liverpool fan would have taken that at the start of the season.
We also have a lot to be decided in the FiT World. Are you fighting it out for the Mini League end of season trophy, are you still trying to work out how James does it, or are you in with a shot of winning the last Monthly rosette? You have 2 free and 1 optional transfer to use on the final day – my advice, wait for the line-ups before using them. Young and fringe players will be given a chance to shine, so expect some strange looking team line-ups. The end of season trophies will all be issued on Monday afternoon.
The EPL might be coming to end, but the World Cup is about to start! At some point next week we will allow you to start selecting your squads. You’ll have unlimited transfers up until 10 minutes before the first game kicks off on June 12th. DON’T DELETE THE APP! You will be able to use your existing manager login and app to play the World Cup game.
We hope you have enjoyed the season, we certainly have. We wanted to finish by saying a MASSIVE thank you to all of you for your continued support, and a big shout out to all our Blog writers for keeping us in the know throughout the season.
Best of luck on Sunday!
