It’s Tight at the Top by Gregg Livingstone

January 31, 2014 12:25 pm

Hi dudes, gameweek 24 is upon us and it’s tight at the top of the FiT world championship. Topping the league is Super Don with 1678 points, that’s an impressive average of 72.9 points per gameweek. In second is the legend James Dash with 1672 points and third is Mark Cowles with 1648. Just check out the trophy cabinets of these 3 FiT veterans ……incredible!!

With my top team totalling 1366 points, that’s an average of 59.3 points per week. I have a lot to do in the remaining months.

Luis Suarez remains the top points scorer overall. 22 goals and 14 assists in 18 games gives him a total of 188 points. That’s 57 points more than Sergio Aguero in second place with 131 points. It’s easy to see why he has been the captain choice for most managers this season. With RVP back from injury he will be a decent alternative to Suarez as captain for some, and at 12.2 his value is only going to increase in the coming weeks.

On another note, FiT released a new update on Thursday for the new quiz section within the app. It’s a great way to test your football knowledge against others and to win FiT credits. Amazingly I was top for half an hour! I’ll take that!!

GAMEWEEK 23 REVIEW

Manchester United welcomed back Robin van Persie and gave a debut to new signing Juan Mata for their home clash against Cardiff on Tuesday night. Both men were involved with RVP taking just 6 minutes to get on the scoresheet in a comfortable 2-0 win.

Norwich and Newcastle played out a 0-0 draw at Carrow Road and it was goalless at Stamford Bridge between Chelsea and West Ham and West Hams bus.

Southampton battled to a draw with leaders Arsenal at St. Marys, Oliver Giroud was amongst the scorers as it finished 2-2.

Swansea beat Fulham 2-0 and Crystal Palace continued their recent good run with a 1-0 win against Hull thanks to another Jason Puncheon goal.

Liverpool battered Everton 4-0 in the Mersey derby thanks to a Daniel Sturridge brace. Well done to those who captained him, even with losing points for a missed penalty still picked up a solid 18 points with the captaincy.

Aston Villa beat local rivals West Brom 4-3 with 6 goals coming in the first half. Christian Bentekes second half goal enough to win it for Villa.

Sunderland defeated Stoke 1-0 thanks to in-form Adam Johnson. 5 goals and 2 assists in his last 3 games for him.

Manchester City thumped Tottenham 5-1 at White Hart Lane to go top of the league. Danny Rose was sent off during a miserable night for Spurs. Man City completed the league double over Spurs scoring an incredible 11 goals in the process.

GAMEWEEK 24 PREVIEW

NEWCASTLE V SUNDERLAND

The Tyne Weir derby is one of two early kick offs in gameweek 24 and with Sunderland unbeaten in 3 games will want to continue that run to drag them away from the bottom reaches of the table. Newcastle will be without arguably their two best players with Loic Remy suspended and Yohan Cabaye having moved to PSG.

ONE TO WATCH : Adam Johnson

SCORE PREDICTION : 2-2

WEST HAM V SWANSEA

After a good result for West Ham away at Chelsea they will be looking for 3 points to move them out of the relegation zone. West Ham have a couple of new signings who will be hoping for debuts but all the talk will be of Swansea’s new signing……David N’gog. Time will tell if he’ll be able to touch the ball if by some miracle he’ll get on the pitch!

ONE TO WATCH : Wilfried Bony

SCORE PREDICTION : 1-3

CARDIFF V NORWICH

Rock bottom Cardiff will want to make home advantage count against mid table Norwich. With a 3 point gap opened up between bottom and 17th and only 15 games to go, Cardiff need a win to keep in touch with those above them.

ONE TO WATCH : Wilfried Zaha

SCORE PREDICTION : 1-1

EVERTON V ASTON VILLA

Everton will be looking to bounce back from the beating they took from Liverpool and with Villa grabbing a hard fought victory over West Brom this one could go either way. Coleman and Lukaku are both injured and with Christian Benteke finding some form, Villa might be up for this one.

ONE TO WATCH : Kevin Mirallas

SCORE PREDICTION : 3-2

FULHAM V SOUTHAMPTON

Fulham have lost 3 in a row and sit in 19th place, only a point ahead of Cardiff. Southampton are unbeaten in 3. Adam Lallana has a very solid 99 points and sits 4th on the total midfield point scorers. At 6.5 it’s easy to see why he remains an FiT managers mid range midfielder choice.

ONE TO WATCH : Adam Lallana

SCORE PREDICTION : 0-2

HULL V TOTTENHAM

Hull have lost their last 4 games and haven’t scored in any of them. Their last goals came in the 6-0 trouncing of Fulham in gameweek 19. Spurs will need to win games like this if they are to maintain a challenge for a top 4 spot. Christian Eriksen has been in good form lately and at 6.4 seems a good buy. Emmanuel Adebayor has been seeing plenty of game time recently and with 5 goals and 3 assists in 7 games, his value of 6.9 is excellent.

ONE TO WATCH : Emmanuel Adebayor

SCORE PREDICTION : 1-4

STOKE V MANCHESTER UNITED

Man United have players regaining fitness and with Juan Mata in the team their season could be on the up. Mata at 8.6 is still cracking value and with plenty of game time to look forward to he will be a great addition to any team, plus his value is only going to go up. Stoke is always a difficult place to go and get a win but with RVP back and firing, I can only see one winner.

ONE TO WATCH : Juan Mata

SCORE PREDICTION : 0-2

WEST BROM V LIVERPOOL

West Brom have slipped down to 15th in the table but Liverpool won’t take league position for granted. With Sturridge and Suarez in blistering form it’s a good bet to captain either one for double points. At 13.2, Suarez is the games most expensive player, but with a massive 188 points that value is chicken feed in comparison.

ONE TO WATCH : Luis Suarez

SCORE PREDICTION : 1-3

ARSENAL V CRYSTAL PALACE

Arsenal will want to get back to winning ways after the draw with Southampton but Palace have found some form of late. This fixture stinks of captain for me, with Girouds 10 goals and 5 assists in 21 games he could be my bet of the gameweek. If Arsenal fancy this it could be a good day for the gunners and with them playing first against Liverpool in GW25 I’ll be getting 2-3 of them in my team.

ONE TO WATCH : Mesut Ozil

SCORE PREDICTION : 5-0

MANCHESTER CITY V CHELSEA

Top of the table Man City host Chelsea in Mondays game. Man City have been in top form at home and I fancy them for this one. Sergio Aguero is a doubt but with Dzeko, Negredo and Jovetic have plenty of firepower to shoot down Chelsea. Yaya Toure has 12 goals and 4 assists equating to 128 points this season and he remains a popular choice for many managers.

ONE TO WATCH : David Silva

SCORE PREDICTION : 2-1

Well that’s it from me, thanks for reading and good luck for the coming months.
