One More Title Twist? By Gregg Livingstone

May 1, 2014 9:45 am

Hi guys,

So, it’s the penultimate gameweek and with the champions and relegated teams still undecided it really has been one of the best seasons in years.

Manchester City play Everton, and a win for City would give them a giant advantage towards the title. If they slip up then Liverpool could take advantage and Chelsea could still sneak in and pinch it. All very exciting! With any of the bottom 8 still in the relegation mix, the lower end of the table is just as exciting.

Remember guys that 6 teams play twice this gameweek so be sure to captain a player from one of these teams for maximum points. Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa, West Brom, Hull and Sunderland all play twice so a captain from one of these is a must.

Luis Suarez remains the top point scorer overall with a massive 282 points. His form this season has seen him crowned player of the year. Yaya Toure is in second with 196 points and young player of the year Eden Hazard is in third with 178 points.

At the summit of the FiT world championship is that man again James Dash, followed by Super Don in second. Michael Galbraith is just behind in third. The Dashmans 2701 points put him firmly on course for a third straight world title! He just keeps getting better and I’m certainly gonna have a cheeky tenner on him next season!

Having already surpassed last season’s total, his 2701 points equates to 75.02 on average per week. Super Dons 2624 total is 72.88 per week and Michael Galbraiths 2619 total is 72.75 per week. Outstanding totals and that’s why these 3 are top of the pile! My weekly average is 61.23 which I’m quite happy with but it’s only good enough for 1804th place at present!

With James Dash 77 points clear with 2 gameweeks remaining, this really does highlight what an achievement a third straight crown would be. To win 3 in a row with the same team would really be remarkable and thoroughly well deserved.

GAMEWEEK 36 REVIEW

Southampton kicked off the week with a 2-0 win over Everton courtesy of 2 own goals to dent Everton’s chances of securing the final champions league spot. Fulham let slip a 2 goal lead to draw 2-2 with Hull to remain firmly in the relegation zone. Tottenham beat Stoke 1-0 at the Brittania and West Brom beat West Ham by the same score at the Hawthorns.

Swansea piled on the pressure on sorry Aston Villa, battering Paul Lamberts side 4-1. Ryan Giggs’ first game as Manchester United’s interim manager saw them come out comfortable winners against struggling Norwich. A brace each from Wayne Rooney and substitute Juan Mata wrapping up a 4-0 victory. Sunderland climbed up the table thanks to a 4-0 drubbing of Cardiff. Cardiff remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the table with time running out for the welsh outfit. In form Connor Wickham bagging a brace to take his tally to 5 goals in 3 games.

With the PFA player of the year awards being decided on Sunday evening, eventual winner Luis Suarez was unable to help his Liverpool side break down Chelsea’s armada of buses. Chelsea’s 2-0 victory blew the title race wide open and handed the impetus back to Manchester City. Chelsea won, football nill.

Manchester City went into their game with Crystal Palace knowing 4 wins out of 4 would give them the league title and they didn’t disappoint. A 2-0 win against in form Palace leaves City with the league destiny in their own hands. Arsenal ran out clear 3-0 winners over Newcastle to move 4 points clear of Everton in the race for the final champion’s league place.

GAMEWEEK 37 PREVIEW

WEST HAM V TOTTENHAM

West Ham will want the win here to ensure they are not pulled toward the drop zone. Spurs however are in good form and will want to finish the season strongly. Christian Eriksen has been in fantastic form of late and with 7 goals and 9 assists in 21 games is a good shout for 6.8 million.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-1

ONE TO WATCH: Christian Eriksen

ASTON VILLA V HULL

Villa have been tragic this season and if it wasn’t for the fact that the teams below them have been even worse then they would be in real trouble. With only 1 draw and 5 losses in their last 6 games, Villa will be aware that is real relegation form. Hull might have one eye on the FA cup final but Villa will have to be much better to get the victory they so sorely need.

SCORE PREDICTION: 2-1

ONE TO WATCH: Shane Long

MANCHESTER UNITED V SUNDERLAND

With United playing at home twice this gameweek a United player has to be captain’s choice for me. Some will go for a Manchester City player but for me it has to be Rooney. Mata will be a good shout too but with Rooney’s 17 goals and 12 assists in 27 games swings it for me. Sunderland are desperate for points and with Connor Wickham they have a striker of their own in form.

SCORE PREDICTION: 3-1

ONE TO WATCH: Wayne Rooney

NEWCASTLE V CARDIFF

Newcastle will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Arsenal when they entertain bottom of the league Cardiff. Newcastle have little to play for but Cardiff need maximum points from their final 2 games to stand any chance of beating the drop.

SCORE PREDICTION: 2-0

ONE TO WATCH: Loic Remy

STOKE V FULHAM

Stoke are safe in mid table but Fulham are right down at the foot in 19th. With 2 games left this is a must win for Fulham and even if they win their final fixtures it very well might not be enough. Don’t expect a classic!

SCORE PREDICTION: 0-0

ONE TO WATCH: Steve Sidwell

SWANSEA V SOUTHAMPTON

With Southampton equalling their highest premier league point’s total of 52, they will be looking to beat that against mid table Swansea. With Adam Lallana they have real quality in midfield and his point’s return of 152 reflects this. 7.5 million is still a great price for the Saints captain.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-2

ONE TO WATCH: Rickie Lambert

EVERTON V MANCHESTER CITY

This is the big game for City. Goodison has not been a great place for them in recent times and Everton’s Mersey rivals will be hoping for a favour from the toffees. Dropped points for City will shift the power back to Liverpool in the race for the title. Everton have it all to do after Arsenal opened up a 4 point gap in the race for 4th with 2 games remaining.

SCORE PREDICTION: 2-2

ONE TO WATCH: Sergio Aguero

ARENAL V WEST BROM

Arsenal will be looking to take the form we saw against Newcastle in to the game against West Brom. A win for Arsenal will secure the final champions league place and I can’t see anything but a gunners win today. Mezut Ozil showed glimpses against Newcastle to why he is so highly regarded and he might be worth bringing in for the final 2 games if he isn’t already in your team.

SCRE PREDICTION: 4-1

ONE TO WATCH: Aaron Ramsey

CHELSEA V NORWICH

Chelsea will be looking for maximum points from their final 2 games to stand any chance of bringing the title back to Stamford Bridge. Norwich need a win here to keep the pressure on those around them and take it to the final day. A massive task for Norwich.

SCORE PREDICTION: 4-0

ONE TO WATCH: Andre Schurrle

CRYSTAL PALACE V LIVERPOOL

Liverpool may be off the top of the league come kick off if Manchester City get maximum points against Everton. Liverpool will want to take it to the wire so must pick themselves up from the loss to Chelsea if they are to get the win against in form Palace. 11th place for Palace is a remarkable turnaround from their early season form. Tony Pulis and Brendan Rodgers are a lot of peoples shout for manager of the year.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-3

ONE TO WATCH: Luis Suarez

MANCHESTER UNITED V HULL

United’s second home game in GW37 sees them taking on Hull. United will want to finish a disappointing campaign strongly and I fancy an easy victory for them today. A win for Hull against Villa will see them safe but if they lose that game then they will be nervous at the prospect of going to Old Trafford.

SCORE PREDICTION: 3-0

ONE TO WATCH: Wayne Rooney

MANCHESTER CITY V ASTON VILLA

If City overcome Everton in their first game of GW37 then it could all be over bar the shouting. I can’t see Villa standing in the way of City and 3 points today. City at home have been devastating and with goal difference possibly being a deciding factor in the title race, City will want to add to their superior goal difference over Liverpool.

SCORE PREDICTION: 5-1

ONE TO WATCH: Yaya Toure

SUNDERLAND V WEST BROM

With both teams winning in GW36 both teams need the points to help their survival bids. At the time of writing Sunderland are 4 points adrift of West Brom and have to travel to Old Trafford in their first fixture of GW37. I fancy Sunderland with home advantage and can see them sneaking it by the odd goal.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-0

ONE TO WATCH: Connor Wickham

Well that’s it from me, best of luck for the final 2 gameweeks and cheers for reading.

Take it easy,

Gregg.
